Frederik Nicolai was born in 1977, in a small town in the east of Belgium. After working on cultural and film projects in his hometown, he decided to move to Brussels in search of some fresh air and new experiences. Apparently, a lot of people think he’s the owner of several pubs in town, but that’s another guy with exactly the same name. Frederik started his career executive producing short fiction films for Michael R. Roskam (“Haun” and “Carlo”), and later spent several years producing feature films and fiction series in the Netherlands (VPRO “LolaMoviola”, “Little Girl Blue”, NPS “Motel Films”). Shortly after, he completely dedicated himself to author documentaries. Since then, Frederik has produced and co-produced more than 40 successful documentary films and series and has established a wide international network of broadcasters, sales agents, distributors, festivals, etc. Films in his editorial line should spring from the passion and creativity of the documentary author, providing a contemporary and wayward look on the world from inside out. His documentaries should tell stories that fight taboos and stigmas, create new insights, opinions, critical point-of-views, provide a broader and more critical world view, necessary in our often one-dimensionally evolving society. Creating and producing documentaries is more than just a profession for Frederik - it is a passion, a mission based on the constant urge to unravel latent dynamics and unknown aspects of our society. In addition to producing, he is also a scriptwriter, a director coach for young filmmakers, a lecturer and a board member at Doc Nomads (
www.docnomads.eu).
