More and more challenges and additional restrictions are being imposed on the region, first with Covid-19 and the closing of borders with non-EU countries, and then with the current political crisis in Belarus, which seems to be pushing it further away from the EU. People are unable to see their loved ones because of the closed borders. As a result, loneliness and the feeling of being stuck have just intensified. But for the people living on the Lithuanian-Belarusian borderline, there is nothing left to do but accept reality as it is and wait for better times to come to the forgotten outskirts of Europe.
