Chinese investments

China is investing billions in the Balkans. Since the country considers Serbia an important link on its new Silk Road, it has invested at least €13 billion in new infrastructure in Serbia. For example, a brand new high-speed tram line from Athens to Budapest runs through Serbia, including Subotica, the small town of Mini-Yugoland. The Chinese investment was welcomed with open arms: the steel factories and the coal mines were revived, and many people were hoping that the old glorious days of communism and camaraderie would return. But contemporary Chinese communism has little in common with these values.
