The Courtcase

TRØMSO, NORWAY

Since all negotiations with the Norwegian authorities did not lead to a positive outcome, the Saarivuoma decided to start a court case in the Nord-troms District Court in Tromsø to regain the right to cross the border with their reindeer.

Tromsø is called Romsa in the Sami language. After centuries of oppression by Scandinavian people, it is once again an important center of Sami culture. Today, the Sámediggi, the Norwegian Sami Parliament, established in 1998 is situated in Tromsø.
